Macey's journey into functional medicine began in 2017 when she was diagnosed with her first of many autoimmune diseases, Sjogren's Syndrome. Displeased with the limited treatment options available through conventional medicine, she sought alternatives. Macey's mother discovered a functional medicine practitioner in New York who helped her address the root causes of her disease. After three years of lifestyle changes and following the prescribed treatment plans, Macey no longer had the Sjogren's antibodies present in her body. Thanks to advanced testing, implementing a clean diet and healthy lifestyle has become a lasting change that she now enjoys and promotes to help others find healing. Driven by her passion for functional medicine,  Macey has undergone extensive training and certification through The Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner, IFMCP progam. Macey is the first certified functional medicine practitioner in Oxford, MS. These clinicians utilize a comprehensive set of evidence-based tools and practices, collaborating with patients to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to their unique health needs. She is dedicated to identifying the root causes of her patients' symptoms, enabling their bodies to heal and function optimally. Additionally, Macey is trained in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). With a desire to serve Christ and others, Macey has participated in mission trips to Honduras and Africa. She also actively serves in her church by playing piano, teaching, and working with children. Macey has been a dedicated family nurse practitioner serving patients in the Oxford area at Ole Town Med since 2023.  Come see Macey and start your journey towards healing.

Specialties

  • Autoimmunity

Autoimmunity can manifest through a variety of symptoms, such as fatigue, joint pain or stiffness, brain fog, unusual weight changes, muscle pain or weakness, rashes, swollen glands, digestive issues, and hair loss. Whether you have been officially diagnosed with an autoimmune condition or are experiencing symptoms despite normal lab results, our clinic is dedicated to identifying the root cause of your symptoms. Our goal is to help your body heal and function at its full potential.

  • Adrenal Insufficiency

Adrenal insufficiency, often referred to as “adrenal fatigue, " occurs when the body experiences chronic stress. In response to stress, the body releases hormones that prepare it for either a “fight or flight” response. However, when stress is prolonged, the adrenal glands, which produce these hormones, can become “fatigued,” leading to imbalances in cortisol and other hormones. Symptoms of adrenal insufficiency include fatigue, anxiety, depression, abnormal blood pressure, salt cravings, muscle cramps, dizziness, and imbalanced blood sugar, among others.

  • Thyroid

The thyroid can become either underactive or overactive due to autoimmune processes or imbalances in nutrient levels. Symptoms of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) may include fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, brittle nails, sensitivity to cold, constipation, brain fog, irregular menstrual cycles, and an enlarged thyroid gland. In contrast, symptoms of an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can manifest as weight loss, insomnia, irritability, increased sweating, sensitivity to heat, diarrhea, heart palpitations, anxiety or nervousness, tremors, and protruding eyes.

  • Chronic Disease

Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of chronic conditions rather than just treating their symptoms. These underlying causes can include poor nutrition, stress, toxins, allergens, genetics, and imbalances in the microbiome. Chronic diseases that functional medicine aims to address include diabetes,

prediabetes, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, osteopenia, and osteoporosis, among others.

  • BHRT/Hormonal Balance

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is used to alleviate symptoms of hormonal imbalance in postmenopausal and perimenopausal women. Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) utilizes hormones derived from natural sources that are chemically identical to those produced by the body.

In premenopausal females, symptoms of hormonal imbalance can include irregular menstrual cycles, acne, mood swings, painful periods, breast tenderness, bloating, migraines, night sweats, excessive hair growth, and hot flashes. Medical diagnoses for these symptoms may include conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), uterine fibroids, and endometriosis.

  • Advanced Functional Medicine Testing

Advanced functional medicine testing extends beyond standard lab tests, concentrating on identifying underlying imbalances and dysfunctions to understand the root causes of health problems and create personalized treatment plans.

  • Preventative Health

The main goal of preventative health is to minimize the occurrence of chronic diseases and other health issues by recognizing and addressing risks at an early stage. It focuses on enhancing overall health and well-being through regular check-ups, screenings, and lifestyle counseling.
